A smaller version of The Phrenology Head , a handsome piece showing Fowler's map of the head, detailing his interpretation of human character as defined by the form of various areas of the skull.
Lorenzo Fowler ran a successful phrenological publishing business in London in the second half of the nineteenth century (L. N. Fowler & Co.). He became famous for selling these model ceramic heads to accompany his books and these are still widely copied and sold today.
The head is slip cast eathernware pottery, hand decorated and it includes a statement paragraph about phrenology by Fowler on the rear. It makes for an unusual gift , it would look good sitting on a desk or book shelf , a conversation piece.
